Jefferson Parish Pulse: From Sunscreen to Sanitizer

This week on the Jefferson Parish Pulse, we interview Sean McCloskey, founder of Stop & Block. Stop & Block is a local startup with a big mission: to help people avoid sunburns. The company developed a machine that dispenses single-serve shots of sunscreen for folks on-the-go. Stop & Block can be found at local festivals, sporting events and parks.

When the pandemic hit Louisiana, festivals and sporting events were cancelled. Stop & Block pivoted from dispensing sunscreen to doling out sanitizer. Now, high-traffic businesses and facilities all over the region are using the company’s dispensers to keep employees and customers safe.

Stop & Block was the 2nd place winner of the 2018 JEDCO Challenge, a pitch competition for startup companies with ties to Jefferson Parish. During the interview, we talked with Sean about the company’s growth since competing in the JEDCO Challenge, how he decided to pivot during the pandemic, and what he hopes to see for the future of his company.
