Jefferson Parish Pulse: Spend Local JP

Season 3 of the Jefferson Parish Pulse will be all about spending locally. Over the summer, JEDCO launched the Spend Local JP Initiative to encourage local residents to support their favorite homegrown businesses. Spend Local JP was created by JEDCO and a number of other business organizations and partners invested in the reopening of the Jefferson Parish economy.

77% of Jefferson Parish businesses have 20 employees or less. Small business represent 53% of jobs in Jefferson and over $4.3 billion in annual payroll. When you eat local, shop local and spend local, you are helping neighbors, friends and family members stay employed and keep food on their tables. Additionally, dollars go further when they’re spend locally. For every dollar spent on a local business int he US, 67 cents stays in the community for things like infrastructure, drainage and schools.

Right now, our local businesses faces a number of challenges and uncertainties. Our effort through this podcast is to highlight some really great local businesses and talk about what it means to them to have your support. As has become tradition, JEDCO President and CEO Jerry Bologna joins us for episode 1 of the new season.

Jerry discussed the importance of the Spend Local JP campaign, a new initiative to encourage residents to support local businesses during the pandemic. He highlighted how the campaign got started and how businesses can get involved. He also gave a quick snapshot of recent sales tax revenues and what he is hearing from the business community as we move into month six of the pandemic.
