McCord Butchery received JEDCO financing to start up new business
(METAIRIE, LA) — The Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission (JEDCO), alongside officials from Jefferson Parish and Louisiana Small Business Development Center, celebrated the grand opening of a bold new Jefferson Parish-based butcher shop on Thursday. McCord Butchery is a unique European style retailer designed to bring customers restaurant quality meat, seafood, and provisions that can be prepared at home. McCord Butchery utilized a Jefferson Growth Fund (JEDgrow) Loan to open its vibrant facility.
McCord Butchery was founded by local couple, chef Sam MCord and his wife, Jacqueline. Guided by chef Sam’s French culinary training and years of experience, the McCords were inspired by friends and family to take their passion for food and relay that into a classic butcher and chef-driven experience. JEDCO and the Louisiana Small Business Development Center worked closely with the McCords to develop a winning loan package. JEDCO financed 80% of the nearly $300,000 project. The loan was used for purchase of furniture, fixtures, equipment and inventory as well as leasehold improvements and working capital.
JEDCO’s loan programs were designed to make financing options more flexible and accessible to business of all sizes. The JEDgrow Loan Program provides funding to Jefferson Parish-based businesses and is most often used to fund startups or small businesses. It is one of several innovative loan programs that JEDCO uses to enhance the economic climate in Jefferson Parish. For more information about the JEDCO Loan Programs, visit JEDCO.org/loans.
“JEDCO is proud to support the grand opening of McCord Butchery in Jefferson Parish,” said JEDCO President and CEO Jerry Bologna. “JEDCO’s loan programs offer a unique opportunity to provide dynamic entrepreneurs with the financing needed to open their doors and achieve their business goals. JEDCO’s Finance Team worked closely with chef Sam McCord, supplying the capital to bring his culinary vision to life and creating new jobs, investment and opportunity in the process. We are excited to see this restaurant-quality butcher make its debut in Jefferson Parish and look forward to watching its growth over time.”
The shop offers premium USDA prime, dry-aged and waygu beef as well as all-natural port, poultry, veal, lamb and fresh seafood. In addition to the vast protein selection, the shop offers wine, locally sourced beer and specialty provisions like oils, dry rubs, brine and more to compliment the fine meats and seafood.
“I want to introduce customers to proteins that make your meals taste better, and that does not mean it has to be expensive,” said chef McCord. “We want to create a personal experience with our customers where you can handpick your products and receive recommendations on how to cook them at home.”
McCord Butchery is open Tuesday – Friday from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. With products changing weekly, enthusiasts can follow the company on Facebook and Instagram (@mccordbutchery). For more information visit mccordbutchery.com.
